At the beginning of May 2026, the number of reachable Tor addresses increased sharply for a few days. The following plots show the number of outgoing Tor connections of a node that is configured analogously to the monitor nodes for the monitoring at Bitcoin Network Monitor - DSN Research Group, KASTEL @ KIT with the exception that the node initiates connections over Tor.
During the last months, typically, about 16 000 concurrently reachable Tor addresses were observed. However, this number increased in multiple steps to about 33 000 Tor addresses on May 9 and declined abruptly back to the normal level on May 10.
